Jay Wright '83, head coach of the Villanova University men's basketball team for the last 15 years, will return to campus to participate in the Walling Speaker Series on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. in Trout Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Oct. 24: Annual ‘Ghosts and Hauntings’ Talk Planned

Rich Robbins, Bucknell associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and certified parapsychologist, will give an annual talk, "Ghosts and Hauntings: Decide for Yourself," on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in Trout Auditorium in the Vaughan Literature Building. Robbins will introduce theories of what ghosts and other related phenomena are, offer a discussion of evidence for and against the existence of ghosts, including alleged ghost photos and examples of electronic voice phenomena, and provide an introduction to ghost hunting and identification of local "hot spots."

Nov. 1-2: Bolshevik Revolution Symposium to mark 100th anniversary of Bolshevik power

The Bolshevik Revolution Symposium -- a two-day symposium to mark the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution, the coming to power of the Bolsheviks in Russia in October 1917 -- will be held on Wednesday-Thursday, Nov. 1-2. There will be three public lectures, each with Q&A. The Nov. 1 lecture will take place at 7 p.m., with lectures on Nov. 2 scheduled for noon and 5 p.m.

Nov. 8: Bucknell, WVIA to Premier ‘Peoples of the Susquehanna’ at Campus Theatre

“Peoples of the Susquehanna,” an original documentary film produced by Bucknell University and WVIA Public Media, will premiere locally on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Campus Theatre, 413 Market Street. The one-hour program examines the history, cultures and traditions of the Native Americans of the Susquehanna River watershed. The half-hour Bucknell student documentary, “The Coopers and Conservation at the Headwaters of the Susquehanna,” will also be shown immediately after the WVIA production. Tickets will be sold at theatre box office the night of the show.

Jan. 19-20: Spectacular Shadow-Puppet Play Comes to Weis Center

"Feathers of Fire: A Persian Epic," a shadow-puppet play, will be presented on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts. There will be a free pre-performance talk with the artists on Friday, Jan. 19 from noon-1 p.m. in the Weis Center Atrium Lobby. The Stadler Center for Poetry will welcome Bucknell's 2018 Poet-in-Residence Camille T. Dungy, author of four books of poetry, for a reading on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. in Bucknell Hall. Feb. 14: Professor to Present Reading and Conversation of His Novel, Erasure

Percival Everett, a distinguished professor of English at the University of Southern California and author of nearly 30 books, will read from his novel, Erasure, and then lead conversation on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Gallery Theatre, Elaine Langone Center. His talk is co-sponsored by the English Department and made possible through the support of the University Lectureship Committee. It is part of the semester-long, interdisciplinary series "Erasure: Blackness and the Fight Against Invisibility," by the Griot Institute for Africana Studies.

Feb. 28: Canadian Scholar to Discuss the Mathematics Behind Modern Algorithms

Keith F. Taylor, a professor of mathematics and statistics at Dalhousie University Halifax, Nova Scotia, will discuss the beautiful mathematics behind many of the modern algorithms used in signal and image processing on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. in Academic West 108.  Taylor's free, public talk, titled "The Wavelet Revolution," will focus on abstract mathematical theorems discovered and proven in the recent decades that have had, and continue to have, profound impacts on these technologies.
