Nov. 7: Weis Center Presents Alsarah and the Nubatones at Campus Theatre

Alsarah and the Nubatones will perform as part of the Weis Center’s annual season on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Campus Theatre, 413 Market Street, in downtown Lewisburg. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. A pre-performance talk with the artists will take place from 6:45-7:15 p.m. that evening. General admission tickets for the performance are $20 for adults, $16 for seniors 62+, $10 for youth 18 and under, $10 for Bucknell employees and retirees (limit 2), free for Bucknell students (limit 2), and $10 for non-Bucknell college students (limit 2).

Nov. 8: Bucknell’s Baker to Present Women’s Work Lecture Series Talk

The Samek Art Museum will hold the second of three events related to its Women's Work Lecture Series on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Iron Front Cowork Space, 434 Market St., in downtown Lewisburg. Ashli Baker, an assistant professor of classics and ancient Mediterranean studies at Bucknell, will present a free, public talk entitled "The Myth and Art of Cupid and Psyche."

Nov. 11: Bucknell to Commemorate Centennial of World War I Armistice

Bucknell University will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I with a ceremony in the Rooke Chapel Meditation Grove on Sunday, Nov. 11, starting at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will honor the 718 members of the Bucknell community who participated in the Great War, including the 40 who died during, or as a direct result of, the war.

Nov. 13: Renowned Poet, Essayist Anne Carson to Deliver Reading

Bucknell's Stadler Center for Poetry & Literary Arts will present renowned poet, essayist, professor of classics and translator Anne Carson as its 2018–19 Sojka Visiting Poet. She will present her performance piece "A Lecture on the History of Skywriting," with collaborator Robert Currie, on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Weis Center for Performing Arts. Book sales in the Wes Center Atrium will precede the reading. Carson will also engage in a Q&A on Antigonick, her recent version of the Sophocles’ Antigone, with Bucknell English professor G.C. Waldrep and classics professor Stephanie Larson on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 12 noon in the Elaine Langone Center Forum. Time will be allotted for audience questions. Please note that locations for these events have changed to reflect expected audience sizes. Both events are free and open to the public.

Mark Moyar, director of the Office of Civilian-Military Cooperation, USAID and author of Triumph Forsaken: The Vietnam War 1954-1965 will give a free, public talk on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m. in Bucknell Hall. This event is part of a speaker series hosted by the Department of Sociology & Anthropology. The talk is part of “The ’60s at 50: Reflections on America a Half-Century Later,” a symposium dedicated to a reconsideration of the political, social and cultural legacy of the American 1960s.

The Soweto Gospel Choir, an exciting and colorful two-time Grammy Award-winning group from South Africa, makes its return to North America with a performance called Songs of the Free on Friday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Weis Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets can be purchased online, over the phone at 570-577-1000, or at a Weis Center box office Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets for the performance are $35 for adults, $28 for seniors 62+, $25 for youth 18 and under, $25 for Bucknell employees and retirees (limit 2), $10 for Bucknell students (limit 2), and $25 for non-Bucknell college students (limit 2).
