The Samek Art Museum will hold a free Surrealist Party to celebrate their current exhibition, The Mystic Detectives, on Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Samek Gallery, on the third floor of the Elaine Langone Center. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes representing their favorite surrealist characters.
The Mystic Detectives exhibition opened in the Samek Gallery on Oct. 16 and will run through Dec. 2. Its focus is on the echoes of surrealism in contemporary art. The artists included in the exhibition have created works which tap in the subconscious and confront social contemporary issues and questions. Cognitive dissonance and taking the viewer to unfamiliar places are calling cards of the art included in The Mystic Detectives.
