LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Williamsport Symphony Orchestra’s Billtown Brass Band will present a program titled “An American Flourish!” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6 in Rooke Chapel on the campus of Bucknell University. Admission is free.

“I was working to build a program that would include slices of historic Americana, especially in light of the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding, but one that would also include popular selections by American composers such as George Gershwin and Harold Arlen,” said William Kenny, the band’s conductor. “Sometimes concert programs can be long and maybe even a little intimidating which might make it challenging for families to enjoy together. With this program, kids and adults alike will be able to tap their toes to Sousa marches and hum along to Disney tunes. One of the great things about a brass band is that the repertoire can turn on a dime, moving seamlessly from a concert band classic to an orchestral transcription to a popular rock song, making for never a dull moment.”
Now in its 27th year, The Billtown Brass Band comprises musicians from the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra and additional professional performers from throughout the region including Williamsport, Lewisburg, Selinsgrove, State College, Danville, and Selinsgrove. The band will also perform on June 27th as part of Lycoming County’s America 250 Celebration in Williamsport’s Brandon Park. Kenny, the band’s conductor, is professor of music at Bucknell University and conductor of the Penn Central Wind Band.
