Oct. 19-21: Bucknell to Hold Homecoming Weekend

More than 600 alumni and their families are expected to return to the Bucknell University campus to participate in Homecoming Weekend Oct. 19-21. The annual celebration will feature a full weekend of events.

Highlights of the weekend schedule include a celebration of 125 years of engineering education at Bucknell. Activities include an “Engineering Then and Now Kick-off” with a special BizPitch competition hosted by Bucknell’s Small Business Development Center on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Dana Engineering Building lobby. The celebration will continue Saturday in Gerhard Fieldhouse with the 16th annual Bucknell Engineering Student Research Symposium from 4:30-6:30 p.m., followed by a “125 Celebration: Then and Now.”

The 40th annual Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony will take place Friday at 7 p.m. in the Terrace Room of the Elaine Langone Center. Former Bison athletics greats Bill Graham ’62 (wrestling), Jason Buursma ’08 (baseball), Michael Lookingland ’05 (soccer), Tricia Plasko Rocchino ’92 (track & field), Noel Powell ’04 (track & field) and Charlie Waddell ’07 (golf) will be inducted. Registration is available here.

The Homecoming football game will be played Saturday at noon vs. Lafayette in Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Before the game, there will be an alumni tailgate and Bison Kids’ Zone, as well as a special welcome for the Class of 2018. There will also be a  “Bucknellians in World War I” tent inside the stadium from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to commemorate more than 700 Bucknellians who served in “The Great War,” which ended 100 years ago. Researchers who documented Bucknell participation in the war will be on hand to chat with guests. Game tickets may be purchased through the box office, or at the stadium on game day.

There will also be weekend sporting events hosted by the Bison men’s and women’s cross country and swimming & diving and men’s rugby teams.

The Department of Theatre and Dance will present Antigone, a tragedy by Sophocles, on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. in Harvey M. Powers Theatre. Tickets are available through the Bucknell Box Office.

The Bucknell Choir and Camerata will perform its annual Homecoming concert Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Rooke Recital Hall. The free performance features a cappella and accompanied works from across centuries.

The weekend will also feature two art exhibits at the Samek Art Museum. “Mystic Detectives” will explore the influence and echoes of surrealism in contemporary art in the Samek Gallery in the Elaine Langone Center. In collaboration with Bucknell’s classics & ancient Mediterranean studies department, “Women’s Work” will re-examine the traditional power structure found in classical tales in the Samek Downtown Gallery, 416 Market St. Both galleries will be open from noon to 5 p.m. throughout the weekend.

Throughout the weekend, Bucknellians on campus and around the globe are encouraged to show their school spirit by wearing their orange and blue and posting a photo on social media using #BucknellNation for a chance to win an exclusive spirit pack. Those not on social media can send their photos to alumni@bucknell.edu. The most creative photo wins.

Alumni who plan to return for Homecoming weekend are encouraged to register here.
