The Modern Hebrew Studies Program presents Lior Sternfeld, a social historian of the modern Middle East, who will give a free, public lecture entitled “Israel and the Formation of the Modern Middle East” on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Elaine Langone Center (ELC) Gallery Theatre (third floor). There will be a reception for Sternfeld at 6:15 p.m. in the ELC’s Arches Lounge
An assistant professor of history and Jewish studies at Penn State University, Sternfeld primarily studies the history of modern Iran, Iran-Israel relations and the Jewish minorities in the region. His first book, Between Iran and Zion: Jewish Histories of Twentieth Century Iran, was published by Stanford University Press in 2018.
Funding is provided, in part, by the University Lectureship Committee. The event is co-sponsored by Languages, Cultures and Linguistics; Arabic Studies and Arab World Studies; and Religious Studies.
