Jazz drummer Billy Hart, who has performed with some of the biggest names in jazz, will kick off the “Jazz at Bucknell” chamber series with a free concert at Bucknell Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
Hart was a member of Herbie Hancock’s sextet (1969–1973), and played with McCoy Tyner (1973–1974), Stan Getz (1974–1977) and Quest (1980s). He is also an extensive freelance musician and has recorded with Miles Davis and many other jazz greats.
Jazz at Bucknell is a chamber series which was conceived to present international modern masters and young visionaries to the campus and surrounding community several times during the year. Programming showcases the entire tradition of jazz, from standards to the Avant-Garde, with an eye on artists who continue the innovative tradition of the music with their personal approaches to sound, style, and composition.
