The jazz band Triple Double will play a free, public concert as part of the Jazz at Bucknell series on Monday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Bucknell Hall.
Brooklyn-based drummer and composer Tomas Fujiwara‘s sextet is actually two trios interacting, featuring two drummers, two brass performers and two guitarists. With fellow drummer Gerald Cleaver, Mary Halvorson and Brandon Seabrook on guitar, and Taylor Ho Bynum on cornet and Ralph Alessi on trumpet, the pairings form unisons and contrasts that add an unrestrained sense of enthusiasm and excitement to Fujiwara’s sophisticated compositions.
Jazz at Bucknell is a chamber series which was conceived to present international modern masters and young visionaries to the campus and surrounding community several times during the year. Programming showcases the entire tradition of jazz, from standards to the Avant-Garde, with an eye on artists who continue the innovative tradition of the music with their personal approaches to sound, style, and composition.
