Bucknell to Host Workshop on Entrepreneurial & Innovative Mindsets in Nonprofits and the Arts

The event features a keynote by Steve Bass ’79, former president and CEO of Oregon Public Media.

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell University’s Perricelli-Gegnas Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation (PGCEI) will host Cultivating Entrepreneurial & Innovative Mindsets in Nonprofits & the Arts on Friday, Feb. 6, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Rooke Recital Hall, located in the Sigfried Weis Music Building.

The daylong workshop will bring together nonprofit and arts leaders, practitioners, educators and students to explore the intersection of creativity, social impact, innovation and entrepreneurship. Through panels, conversations and networking opportunities, participants will examine strategies for building sustainable organizations and meaningful careers that address community needs and real-world challenges.

“This event will bring together leaders, practitioners and changemakers to share their experiences and advice for building impactful organizations and pursuing careers that serve community needs,” says Erin Jablonski, director of the Perricelli-Gegnas Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation.

The program begins at 9 a.m. with registration in the Rooke Recital Hall lobby, followed by welcome remarks at 9:30 a.m. from campus partners exploring how theory translates into practice through student experiences. Sessions throughout the morning will address leadership in arts organizations and pathways to purposeful leadership and impact in the nonprofit sector.

At 1 p.m., keynote speaker Steve Bass ’79, former president and CEO of Oregon Public Media, will present innovation in the non-profit sector. Bass will also serve as PGCEI’s Nonprofit/Arts Leader-in-Residence during the week of Feb. 2–6, engaging with students and the campus community through classes and conversations. He’ll present a talk hosted by the Bucknell Institute for Public Policy entitled “The Crisis in Public Broadcasting,” on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 4 p.m. in Willard Smith Library, Vaughn, Literature Building.

Afternoon sessions will focus on nonprofit governance and founders’ stories, offering firsthand perspectives from leaders who have launched and sustained mission-driven organizations. The workshop will conclude with closing remarks and a cocktail reception at 4 p.m. at the Campus Theatre in downtown Lewisburg.

“Our day features breakout sessions and speakers exploring the formation of nonprofits, development of collaborative partnerships, and the integration of entrepreneurial strategies and experiences into nonprofit and arts ventures,” Jablonski says. Participants will also engage with one another to discuss emerging challenges facing the sector, from starting new organizations to effectively communicating one’s value and mission.
